The Indian Premier league is always known for the furor that it creates amongst the fans, purely because of the concept and the entertainment factor involved in it. Entertainment is a multifaceted factor and each individual would see it in his or her own terms. This year, to me, one of the other factor that has entertained through out the season 10 of the tournament is the advertisement during the breaks. IPL always has had some of the best ads which come with a shelf life and stays alive only during the tournament (who can forget the wave zoo-zoo ads created?)
First in my list of favorites, is the Vodafone ad (like always!). Only this time, the theme was much more close to reality and had a lot of lessons hid in it for all of us. For most of us who keep fretting about how things should have been and cursing about how we are tied and unable to do a long-pending task, #MakeTheMostOfNow is a perfect campaign. What better way to show it than an elderly couple who finally managed to have their share of fun and spend some golden moments in each others' company! Now let us just imagine, what would have been their friends or family's reaction when they would have announced that they want to spend a week in Goa, partying and parasailing? We all know the odds of people's reaction. And yet, there they were, defying those odds. Something to surely learn about! The other obvious statement in the ad, its never too late to do anything! Another worth noticing aspect is that how easily this couple managed to make friends all along their journey and spread smiles. You might say "It is only a planned script!" and I 100% agree with you. But, what do we take away from it? To realize, let me ask you a question - When was the last time you spoke to a 'stranger' and shared a smile? How often have you done it? This part of the ad just shows us that no matter what, we are all here for a short duration (perhaps the elder couple are a personification of this?) and underlines the motto that every minute matters!
Moving onto the second of my favorites, Amazon started their own series this time; a small cricket club wanting to make large in their tournaments. Ambition is the word to be underlined here. From being deprived of proper kits to feature in a local T20 tournament, to overcoming the fear of not knowing English, this ad has what it takes to motivate us! There are always the factors that are stopping us from moving forward, but sometimes, it is so important to take things in stride (literally!). Remember how the team finds their wicket keeper? Isnt that another lesson to be learnt? That no matter what you are going through, keep your eyes wide open, for you never know when and where the opportunity that you were in quest of, presents itself in front of you! Today, I saw the conclusion of this ad, and it ends in a metaphorical way stating that the cricket team is not actually a team, but is a manifestation of all the desires and dreams of people and how it can be fulfilled if they are 'looking at the right place!'. True ain't it?
As the curtains have begun their downward march on the IPL, like every year, these commercials will also cease to exist. But things that we can learn and should learn out of these 'other' entertainment aspects are innumerable and the above is only an illustration of a few of them. Whatever were the thoughts of the agencies who came up with these beautiful ads, as a end viewer and as a person, it would be injustice if we fail to take a leaf or two out of these and inculcate in our lives :)
